lifestyle. Just follow these steps to help your body stay
strong now and for years to come.
Maintain A Healthy Weight. Weight gain at any age can increase your risk for
many chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Unfortunately, as we get older it's easier for the pounds to sneak up on us. Know
what rangeis a healthy weight for you – check your BMI (Body Mass Index) now.
Stay Physically Active. Getting an adequate amount of exercise is good for your health and overall well-being. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise most days of the week. And if you don't have 30 minutes at one time, a few 10-minute sessions throughout the day can be beneficial too.
Eat A Healthy Diet. A healthy diet that is low in fat and includes fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy is key to your overall health. Reduce your total calories from fat to 35% or less of your calorie intake and limit how often you eat foods high in saturated fat, such as red meat, butter, whole milk and cheese. And don't forget to get vitamin D!
Alcohol In Moderation. If you choose to drink, please do so in moderation. Experts recommend limiting alcohol intake to one drink or less per day. (One drink equals 12 ounces of beer, 1.5 ounces of distilled liquor or a 5 ounce glass of wine.)
Get Examined. Get screened regularly! Regular preventive health exams evaluate your health status and identify risk factors for disease. Women should get a yearly mammogram beginning at age 40 or as recommended by your doctor.
